In Boston, the former Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo was arrested in Indiana

Over the weekend on various charges, including firearm and marijuana possession.

The arrest occurred on Sunday afternoon in Jackson County, Indiana, when Rondo was pulled over on Interstate 65 for a traffic violation, as reported by the Indiana State Police. Allegedly, the trooper detected the scent of marijuana emanating from Rondo’s vehicle.

Upon inspection, law enforcement discovered a firearm, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the car. Notably, Rondo is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an existing protection order against him.

All charges filed against the 37-year-old are classified as misdemeanors.

Rondo was incarcerated at Jackson County Jail but was subsequently released upon posting bail.

The two-time NBA champion has faced multiple legal issues, notably in 2022 when a woman from Louisville sought an emergency protective order against Rondo, alleging threats to her life. A year later, the order was dismissed following Rondo’s completion of anger management classes, counseling, and a mental health evaluation.

In March of the following year, the same woman filed another emergency protective order against Rondo, but the case concluded with an agreed order five months later.

During Rondo’s recent arrest, a child present in the car was subsequently released into the custody of a family member.

Rondo is anticipated to make a court appearance in Jackson County Superior Court, although a specific date has not been determined.

Having contributed to the Boston Celtics’ NBA championship victory in 2008 and securing a second ring with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, Rondo is a four-time All-Star, all of which he earned while playing for Boston. Throughout his NBA career, he also played for the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. His most recent stint in the league was with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2021-22 NBA season.
